"Lumpkins? Aye is true, they're about in these woods. Ugly gnarled wooden root-men, bout my size. That's why I keep a sack 'o rocks on me mule." The small hobbit yanked on the worn beast's reins. "Wreck any blade and have a cart torn to pieces before you're able to bash their heads in!" He spat. "Hittin' em with a sack filled with rocks seems to work. Sump in' bout them bein' natural, I suppose." Instinct: Destroy man made items

  • The Thing in the Well Solitary, Large, Stealthy
Dark Tentacles (w[2d12] damage) 16 HP 1 armor
    Reach, Near

"Good morning," the Thing in the Well calls, "And how are we doing this morning Mrs. Westmen?" -- "Just wonderfully. How have you been keeping, Thing?" -- "Fine, fine. A little peckish, a bit in the mood for, you know, a nibble, a bite to eat. But don't worry yourself, perfectly fine." -- "It's quite alright Thing, I was just thinking I should bring by some lunch. How does a ham sound?" -- "You are too kind Mrs. Westmen, just too kind..." -- The Thing in the Well has lived in the village for longer than anyone can remember. It is traditional to fix regular meals for the Thing, and to present it with a sheep or pig on special occasions. Years ago a boy went down the well on a dare. He never returned. The subject has not been broached in the presence of the Thing. Instinct: To devour

    • Politely collect tribute
    • Leverage townspeople through secrets
    • Purify water
    • Hide in darkened waters

  • Caustigus Solitary, Large, Intelligent
long spindly arms (d10 damage) 16 HP 1 armor
    Forceful, Reach

"Caustigus, Caustigus! Once in it's arms you're lost to us!" The child's nursery rhyme may sound sweet but the Caustigus is not some mere boogey man. The sickly white creature has a long, almost snakelike torso with 4 long arms evenly spaced around it that it uses to quickly reach up out of the muck filled pits it inhabits and drag the unwary to their doom. Usually unwilling to attack when outnumbered, they are often the bane of lone traveler or inattentive scouts... Instinct: to drown the unwary

    • leap out from fetid pools
    • lay in wait
    • retreat when losing
