The hellhound typically appears as a jet black German Shepherd-like canine with glowing red eyes and, when its mouth is open, a reddish glow emitting from its throat. It is prized as a guard dog both for its fearsome appearance as well as for its intelligence and ability to follow relatively complex commands.
