Logan B. Howard's Up-voted Monsters

  • Great Spider – Webling Horde, Tiny, Organized, Intelligent
Spider bite (d4-2 damage) 3 HP 0 armor
    Hand

On occasion a traveller will walk through the woods, and take note of eight small eyes staring at them from the trees. Experienced adventurers knows this is the sign to turn back, but most continue. Yeah, it's as big as a cat, but surely that's as large as they get, and it didn't seem hostile did it? And so they move on, oblivious to the hundreds of eyes watching over them, unseen in the treetops, and oblivious to the eight-legged crawling death waiting ahead. Instinct: Grow in strength

  • Gnoll Group, Organized, Intelligent
Scavenged Weaponry (d8 damage) 6 HP 1 armor
    Close

Gnolls are feral, demon-worshiping marauders, attacking communities without warning, and slaughtering without mercy. While the body of a gnoll is that of a large humanoid, the details are those of a hyena. They wear animal furs or patchwork armor, and wield weapons taken from the dead. Gnolls decorate their armor, lairs, and encampments with the bones of their victims. Tribes are led by alphas, or by shamans who send forth wild-eyed gnolls on brutal raids in the name of the demon lord Yeenoghu. When gnolls attack and pillage a settlement, they leave little behind but razed buildings, gnawed corpses, and befouled land. They drag captives back to deep caves for sacrificial rituals too horrible to describe. Gnolls detest physical labor, so a few captives may be kept as slaves. Guarded by merciless gnoll youths, these slaves' only hope of living to the next day is to show strength and to obey. Because nothing pleases a gnoll more than wanton slaughter, gnolls don't bargain or parley, and they can't be bribed. Instinct: To slaughter and destroy in the name of Yeenoghu

    • Show and enemy no quarter
    • Doggedly track bloodied prey

    Grimcleaver (b[3w[3d10+6] damage 2 piercing) 25 HP 7 armor
    Close, Forceful
Special Qualities: Blood-soaked armor, Shadow mist, Stunning gaze, Nightmare aura

Seven-foot-tall suits of blood-drenched armor wreathed in unnatural shadows, these terrible creatures were born of some dark god in times forgotten. Their purpose is to terrify and brutalize, before killing their prey. Their true names long forgotten, they're called now after their massive blades which cut not just flesh, but hopes, thoughts, memories, and bonds. When a grimcleaver approaches you, roll+wis. On a 10+, you overcome it's aura with nothing more than base uneasiness. On a 7-9, the GM picks one. On a miss, both. * If you immediately flee, mark XP * If you don't flee, take -1 ongoing while you're near it When you look right at a grimcleaver's face, roll+cha. On any results, it knows what you fear. On a 10+, it's also locked in gaze with you, fascinated, doing nothing for a moment. On a miss, you're overcome by visions of your fears. Instinct: To terrorize

    • Sever something
    • Vanish into or appear from shadows
    • Pursue beyond all odds
    • See fears
